Benfits of Tumeric

Tumeric is packed with a chemical known as Curcumin, which has been shown to provide anti-inflammatory effects, antioxidants and a decrease in the risk of cancer.

As an antioxidant it plays an important role in helping liver function. Tumeric can protect the liver from damage due to toxins and those who take strong medications known to cause long-term liver damage.

Tumeric has also shown benefits in reducing hay fever symptoms like sneezing, itching, runny nose and congestion. When used with antidepressents in may help reduce symptoms of depression. Recommended daily dosage is 400-600 milligrams up to three times daily.

AUTO ACCIDENT COVERAGE. ARE YOU COVERED?

ARE YOUR MEDICAL BILLS COVERED? Did you know there is a portion of your automobile policy that not only allows you to go to any doctor you want regardless of your health insurance but pays your bills? Your car insurance protects your car, not the people inside of it. Medical Payments (often called Med Pay) or Personal Injury Protection (PIP) covers the medical cost of all passengers in your vehicle including you if they are injured in an accident. Med Pay will cover the medical cost resulting from an accident regardless of who was at fault. Only injuries caused directly by the accident will be covered by Med Pay. Keep in mind Med Pay is purchased on a by vehicle basis. This means if you have two cars you must purchase Med Pay for both if you wish to be covered in either car. It's also very important to point out that Med Pay is not a replacement for health insurance. Med Pay coverage is strictly limited to injuries that occur during auto accidents and almost always has a limit (We suggest a minimum of $10,000 in coverage). Your health insurance can also cover your injuries if you are in a car accident: the difference is that Med Pay will cover the other people in the car. Additionally, Med Pay or PIP covers your medical cost from an accident at 100%, usually without deductibles and co-payments. If you use your health insurance to cover your accident-related medical expenses you may be subject to plan restrictions, high deductible, co-payments and re-payment. What does all that mean for you? It means that at the end of your accident related treatment you may not have any outstanding doctor bills to pay and so have decreased your liability. This low cost insurance can be an effective way to pay for your treatment bills. Check your automobile declaration page or call your insurance agent to find out your specific coverage's. Most insurance agents do not recommended it. It is an optional coverage and you must request it.  Contact your insurance agent to find the right coverage to fit your individual needs. If you or anyone you know has been involved in an automobile accident the key to recovery is early evaluation and treatment. Don't wait to see if it goes away, call our office immediately.

SPINAL DECOMPRESSION IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU

An often overlooked treatment that is highly successful for slipped or herniated disc is NOW available in our office. This is a non-surgical alternative procedure for relieving low back, neck, arm and leg (sciatica) pain.

Treatment is directed towards relieving pressure on structures such as nerves and disc that are often a major source of pain. It can relieve the pain associated with bulging, herniated and degenerative disc. If you have had a positive MRI you are very much an excellent candidate. If you or someone you know have any one of these conditions have them call and schedule an appointment to see if they are a candidate for spinal decompression. Chiropractic first, Drugs second and Surgery last!

Prolonged Sitting Increases Back Pain
For those of you spending significant periods sitting, you're significantly increasing the chances of experiencing back pain, according to the research. In a recent study, researchers conducted a systematic review of previous studies to determine whether increased sitting was associated with an immediate increase in low back pain. Researchers found, as many might expect, that prolonged sitting does in fact increase immediate low back pain in adults. If you find yourself sitting for more than 20 to 30 minute periods, we recommend getting up, stretching, walking around, and taking a break from sitting. It's not only good for your back, it also helps to clear and reset your mind. If you're experiencing low back pain, contact our office today - we can help!

Jump For Your Adjustment!

Looking to increase athletic performance and possibly your vertical jump height? Give an adjustment a try! A small blinded trial was conducted recently in young female athletes who were suffering from ankle joint dysfunction to see if an adjustment to the joint could affect their vertical jump height. The ankle joint, more technically referred to as the talocrural joint, is the joint formed from the ends of the lower leg bones (tibia and fibula) and the top bone of the ankle, the talus. Half of the female athletes with ankle joint dysfunction received an adjustment to their ankle joint once a week for three weeks while the other half received a sham treatment once a week for three weeks. On average, those receiving the adjustment to their ankle joint saw an average 0.47 cm increase in their vertical jump as compared with the sham group. Itís important to recognize that adjustments provided by doctors of chiropractic can be delivered to and benefit more than just the joints of the spine. If you or someone you know is suffering from pain or dysfunction, or is simply looking to enhance their physical performance and overall health, give your local chiropractor a call today!

Ditch the Cola: How Your Favorite Sodas Can Lead to Heart Failure

Sugary sodas may feel like the perfect thirst quencher, but prolonged soda consumption can actually have serious consequences in the long run. Over time, studies have shown increasing links between soda consumption and the risk for high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, and even heart problems. In fact, one Swedish study observed the soda consumption of 42,000 men over the course of 12 years. There were roughly 3,600 new cases of heart failure during the 12-year long study, and it concluded that men who regularly drank two or more servings of soda per day had a 23% greater risk of experiencing heart failure in their lifetime.  Women are strongly advised to ditch the soda as well. Long-term soda consumption in women has been strongly linked to a rise in insulin problems, high blood pressure, obesity, and type-2 diabetes, all of which are triggers for major heart problems. Heart failure occurs when the heart does not have the strength to pump enough oxygen and blood. 23 million people across the globe already deal with heart failure, and it will only continue to worsen with the regular consumption of processed foods, sodium, and sugary beverages like soda.
